The MUPAT Library is a place filled with knowledge, imagination, and adventure. For one week, the library organized a library visit activity for students in grades 1, 2, and 3 of Muhammadiyah 4 Elementary School. The aim of this activity is to introduce the world of libraries to them.
Immersing in the World of Fable Tales
From December 13th to 14th, 2022, 1st-grade students were invited to experience the wonders of fable tales at the MUPAT library. Using hand puppets as a medium, the MUPAT librarians presented engaging fables in front of the students. They were captivated by exciting stories about animals that could speak and act like humans.
After listening to the fable tales, 1st-grade students were given the opportunity to get creative by making paper craft characters of animals from the stories they had heard. They were very enthusiastic about creating a rocking paper craft rabbit. Through this activity, they gained the understanding that reading can be enjoyable. This reading and crafting activity was specially designed for students who are not yet fluent in reading.
Decorating Potato Donuts
On December 15th and 16th, 2022, 2nd-grade students participated in a potato donut decorating activity. Potato donuts were chosen as an alternative to regular wheat flour-based donuts. This activity aimed not only to develop the creativity of the children but also to provide an understanding of the importance of consuming healthy food.
The librarians prepared various toppings such as buttercream, cookie crumbs, and chocolate sprinkles for decoration. The students were taught not to overdo the toppings as they might contain a lot of sugar. Additionally, they were trained to maintain hygiene by washing hands before and after the creative process and by using gloves when decorating the donuts. This activity provided valuable experiences in terms of creativity and hygiene.
Exploring Wind Energy
From December 19th to 20th, 2022, 3rd-grade students had the opportunity to participate in a wind energy experiment workshop on the 2nd floor of the school library. This workshop was an implementation of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) method in a fun and engaging manner.
In this activity, students used balloons filled with air and attached them to strings. They then raced these balloons to reach the finish line. Through this hands-on approach, they were able to understand the basic concept of wind energy and see how wind can move objects.
This week-long library visit provided valuable experiences for the students. They not only gained new knowledge but also engaged in activities that supported creativity, cleanliness, and scientific understanding. MUPAT Library remains committed to providing enjoyable learning experiences to their students, fostering a love for reading, and inspiring the generations to come.
